VISITING PROFESSOR POSITION

CENTER FOR ANIMAL LAW STUDIES

at Lewis & Clark Law School

 

Fall 2017- Spring 2019

 

The Center for Animal Law Studies at Lewis & Clark Law School is now accepting applications for a Visiting Professor (VP) position. The position will run for the 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 academic years. The position is in Lewis & Clark Law School’s premier animal law program at the Center for Animal Law Studies (CALS). 

 

The VP will teach three or four animal law courses per academic year and have the opportunity to write at least one article or other scholarly piece per year. The VP will also have an interest and background in international animal law issues as well as the demonstrated cultural competencies necessary to effectively teach, advise, and mentor our international J.D. and LL.M. students.

Ideal candidates will have a J.D., at least 2 years of practical experience, the ability to teach and communicate effectively, and strong writing and research skills. Ideal candidates will have experience working with diverse populations, demonstrated ability to contribute to campus diversity efforts, and/or evidence of cultural competence.

 

Lewis & Clark Law School is located in Portland, Oregon. Our campus is in a stunning wooded area adjacent to a state wilderness park and offers a peaceful setting for teaching, research, and writing. The campus is located only 10 minutes from downtown Portland and several of Portland’s close-in neighborhoods. Portland offers outstanding restaurants, bars, and coffee shops; excellent traditional and innovative theater and dance; a vibrant music scene; and an impressive and expanding network of bicycling and walking infrastructure. Our faculty and staff have a diverse array of interests and expertise, providing the opportunity for the exchange of stimulating ideas and scholarship.  

 

The VP receives a salary of $50,000 per year, plus contribution towards benefits. The VP will have a private office within the dog-friendly CALS suite and access to our excellent library resources.
